To set the tone, when we arrived at the hotel and spa Ojo Caliente, we took the tour and the energy was really weird. There are several therapeutic mineral pools and a mud bath that seemed relaxing but felt disjointed and uncomfortable. As we walked around there was a feeling of unease somehow. My friends (also sensitive types) and I even toyed with the idea of only staying one night instead of two. We couldn't figure out what it was that made us feel so strange. Guests and staff were pleasant and apparently happy so we had no clue. We decided to wait until the morning to make the decision. We thought maybe we were tired.
That evening, with the full moon glowing in all its midnight glory a friend and I were enjoying the peaceful night air of the empty grounds. To the west of the property towering over us were these prominent high desert cliffs. Their reddish color vibrated against the deep blue of the night sky. Slowly I began to become aware of many Native American people in those cliffs. I felt the immense weight and energy of what felt like an army. Then I got a rush of information and feelings from these beings within the looming earthen walls. I opened up my intuitive channel to receive more information and I sensed they were really angry and frustrated at the owners and business management of the property for some reason. It may sound strange but I had a conversation with them. I just went with it and trusted what I was seeing and feeling. They conveyed to me that their land was somehow taken out of their hands many, many years ago. They want to live in peace but some sort of manipulation of situations occurred and they were upset that the non-natives who built this business do not fully honor the land. The funny thing is they don't care if anyone uses the springs or even that the buildings are there. The issue is this is their permanent ancestral homeland and there doesn't seem to be any honoring or respecting of the LAND. It is sacred to their tribe. I slept that night wondering about all those people living in the cliffs and their deep devotion to maintaining the spiritual connection to the land for all their people, time was irrelevant as each soul seemed to return home regardless of the century.
The next morning during a hike on top of those same cliffs, the site of their pueblo ruins, my friend and I saw countless pottery chards lying at our feet. I came in contact with the actual remnant of their civilization that reactivated my curiosity about my ancient friends and what else they needed to say.
I sensed that a long time ago, around 500 or so years ago they were thriving and in complete alignment with the land and its resources that had been their home for hundreds of years. They lived off the land, held rituals consecrating the area as theirs forever. I felt the energy of their people covering the surrounding hills rooted all the way down to the center of the Earth. The rituals and sacred ceremonies reinforced this as their land until the end of time. Regardless of who builds on it, lives on it, it will always be their homeland. That will never change.
So I said I would and here it is. I am sharing their story now with anyone that will listen. After I accepted their request I felt their frustration recede, they bowed toward me in reverence and were grateful. That day the energy shifted so it wasn't so weird and disjointed anymore. We continued our stay and felt their presence for the rest of our visit but instead of the intense energy of an army looking over my shoulder it was more like a big brother making sure I was okay. I don't know if anyone else has had such an experience but I was honored to connect to them in such a profound way.
After I got home I did a little research and found out that the mineral springs and pueblo belonged to the P'osi-Ouinge (Po-see-o-wing-gay) tribe. Here is a link with more about them.
